SPANISH CLASSES
All Spanish classes at Lorenzen Studios will be taught in a simulated immersion style, using as close to 100% Spanish as possible. The professor will be Dr. Charla Lorenzen, who holds a PhD in Foreign Language Education and taught college-level Spanish classes for 25 years. She will speak a variety of Latin American Spanish, but will expose the students to regional variations, including those of Castilian Spanish from Spain and throughout Latin America.
Students will engage in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural learning and they will be assigned homework to complete each week. Several no-cost technologies will be used, and students are encouraged to bring a laptop, tablet, or phone to each class in order to use these technologies. At all levels, students will most likely be able to comprehend more than they can produce, and they will learn how to embrace uncertainty and engage in the negotiation of meaning.
BEGINNING SPANISH
Students will learn to express basic personal information and communicate with others - often by answering simple questions - using words, lists, and formulaic phrases in the context of concrete and familiar situations.
INTERMEDIATE SPANISH
Students will learn to participate in short conversations on predictable topics of personal interest, ask and answer questions, and successfully complete everyday interactions using sentence-level communication.
ADVANCED SPANISH
Students will learn to participate in interactions on topics of both personal and broader interest, narrate and describe in present, past, and future time frames, and handle more complicated and abstract situations using paragraph-level communication.
