Lore
Lorenzen Studios is a multilingual, multicultural mind-body studio dedicated not just to physical and mental wellness, but also to continual learning and a polishing of the gem of the mind (Yoga Sūtra - Patanjali).
Our studio was named after our founder, whose last name is Lorenzen. We love to segment this into the two words lore and zen and focus on each one in everything we do.
lore: traditional knowledge or beliefs; knowledge gained through study or experience; something taught or a lesson; also: the area between a bird’s eye and bill
zen: a meditative state of calm
studio: from Latin studium (study, zeal, eagerness); a room or place for study, work, or artistic activity
estudio: Spanish for studio, also: I study
It is our goal to consistently achieve a meditative state of calm, characterized by complete immersion and full engagement, as we study and practice together. We call our yoga classes “practice” because yoga is something one does repeatedly that becomes something that you are, not merely something you think or talk about in the abstract or practice on a yoga mat. In this sense, yoga is a path in which the journey is the destination.
The same can be said for our Spanish classes; we limit the amount of time we spend talking in English about Spanish, to enable the practice of what we do know. Future learning builds as we attempt to produce or understand what is still new to us. Although one never stops being a student, using the language becomes a part of your everyday life and identity and provides an avenue into learning about and engaging with more people and cultures.
We believe there is nothing better than getting lost in the flow of one’s practice, whether it be practicing postures, breathing or meditation in yoga class or interacting in authentically engaging ways while broadening our horizons in language classes, workshops & trainings, academic endeavors, and wellness retreats.
As humans do, we try to capture the essence of our endeavors in the form of words and images. This blog is a space for sharing these, and today we are debuting a new image to represent our studio, in addition to our existing logos. This image, created by Ava Lorenzen, captures the lore of the bird and the essence of growth. All living things are able to grow and thrive, and our students are able to soar to new heights with the support of our studio family.
